Compassionate Inquiry

Helping you access and deal with hidden or suppressed emotions

What is Compassionate Inquiry?

Compassionate Inquiry is a therapeutic method helping you to access emotions that are often hidden or suppressed but are subtly, and sometimes not so subtly, playing out in your life in detrimental or limiting ways.

It could be the addictions you're dealing with, compulsive behaviours or the ways you seem to sabotage your very best efforts to make positive changes in your life, like creating healthier habits, or reducing stress in your life.

For many of Eddie’s patients, it’s a cancer diagnosis, chronic illness or a debilitating, repetitive or addictive behaviours that have them walking into the clinic looking for answers.

Common Signs & Symptoms

Some of the common signs and symptoms of trauma or past experiences affecting you now include:

  • Addictive behaviours like overeating, drinking, smoking, sex, drugs, etc.
  • Reduced ability to deal with stress
  • Brain fog or feeling spaced-out a lot of the time
  • Inability to love, nurture or bond with other individuals
  • Nightmares and night terrors
  • Chronic Fatigue or very low physical energy
  • Immune system problems or auto-immune conditions
  • Psychosomatic illnesses - eg. headaches, migraines, neck and back problems, chronic pain, asthma, skin disorders, digestive problems
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Feelings of helplessness, immobility and freezing
  • Abrupt mood swings, extreme rage or temper flaring and/or regular crying
  • Shutting down or lack of emotional response to situations
  • Panic attacks, anxiety and phobias
  • Depression, fear of dying or of impending doom

Eddie's Approach

Eddie takes time to get to know his patients, not just their symptoms or disease, and in these conversations it often becomes apparent it's not about the disease or the external circumstances, but what's happening on the inside.

Pain, sadness, fears that were felt in childhood but had no safe way to be expressed, are often carried into our adult lives in the forms of personality traits, adaptations and behaviours - and sometimes they become manifested as physical symptoms and disease.

Compassionate Inquiry gently uncovers and releases the layers of childhood trauma, constriction and suppressed emotion, that are at the root of illness and addiction. As a CI therapist, Eddie helps you to gently uncover the thinking, hidden assumptions, implicit memories and emotional states that are contributing to the challenges you may be experiencing.

This process helps you to feel seen, heard and safe to connect to yourself and others, expressing your authentic self and what is true for you. This expression is what heals.
