Supporting IVF Success, Naturally

No matter where you are on your IVF journey, deciding which direction to take for your next steps can be difficult.

The emotional rollercoaster and stress that is often associated with fertility issues and IVF can be overwhelming at times. This is one of the first things I help couples with when they are trying to conceive, because stress can have a significant impact on your overall health and of course, your fertility.

If you’re considering IVF or already have begun your IVF journey, you probably want to make sure you’re doing everything you can to improve your chances...

Whether you’re scheduled for treatment in one-month’s time or not for six months, there are several key steps I take couples through to support the IVF process.

How can Naturopathy Help with IVF?

IUI and IVF help your sperm and egg to meet, but they do not address egg quality, sperm quality, endometrial lining, nutritional deficiencies, and regulating your menstrual cycle, which are all needed for proper fertilization and implantation.

Naturopathic medicine goes further: we’re supporting the process, aiming to make sure the implantation holds, and that you carry to term.

Unexplained Infertility Solved

Do you have “unexplained infertility”? There’s almost always a reason, and usually it’s left unexplained because the right questions haven’t been asked, and there hasn’t been sufficient detective work.

During your consultation with me, I spend time understanding your health history, your menstrual cycles, and other factors like sleep, digestion, energy, stress, skin concerns that can all play a part in fertility issues.

We look at any test results you have and may order further tests to collect more information. Based on what we discover through this detective work, we can then create a personalised plan for you that will help to correct underlying root causes and deficiencies.

Lifestyle changes to make during IVF hormone treatment

The fertility hormones used in the IVF process can make any existing stresses and issues feel much worse. I often get asked if there is a way to reduce these kinds of side effects.

Whether you are in a cycle or not, these are all things we can do to get you in the best place - mentally and physically for a successful result, without stress:

  • STRESS - can you remove anything from your life that creates stress? If not, you can learn new ways to respond to stress AND reduce the impacts of stress through actively making time for self care, relaxation and therapies like acupuncture to reduce stress.
  • INFLAMMATION – through reducing certain inflammatory foods, and environmental factors that typically increase inflammation in the body
  • GUT HEALTH - improving the gut microbiome has flow on effects for your immune system, mental health and hormones.
  • ANXIETY - You may not feel that you are an anxious person, especially if you have learned over the years to adapt to, or control your environment. You’ve perhaps become so good at masking the anxiety that it’s hard to identify. ‘Undercover’ anxiety can look like having very specific routines and habits, nail biting, tension in your shoulders, procrastination, over analysing, headaches and migraines. There are many natural and easy ways to address anxiety so it has less impact on your body, now and during your IVF treatment. These skills and awareness of anxiety is something that will help you through motherhood and beyond too!
  • EXERCISE – get moving doing something you love to do. It might be a gym workout for some or yoga for others. Some enjoy a game of squash, others rock climbing. Whatever you enjoy, do that and do it regularly so you get your blood pumping, happy chemicals released in the brain, stress levels reduced and all round feeling better.

How Acupuncture can help during IVF treatment

Acupuncture is becoming more and more well known for the positive effects people experience during IVF treatment when also having Acupuncture.

Studies have shown that acupuncture before and after an embryo transfer during IVF can improve the rate of successful pregnancy from 26% to 43% (Paulus et al, 2002).

After Acupuncture women feel more relaxed, which helps the body to be in a better state for the IVF treatments, the transfer process is often reported as being easier, and it’s been noticed that they have a better endometrial lining.

Acupuncture is well known for helping to reduce stress and ideal if you:

  • Feel anxious about the IVF process
  • Are under a lot of pressure at work or in your family
  • Want to support a healthy endometrial lining
  • Need help with PMS, irregular cycles, PCOS or endometriosis

Boost your chances of IVF success

Both Naturopathy and Acupuncture can help support the IVF process, in many ways, and at all stages of your journey. If you are looking for proven, natural and effective support to help you have a baby, I have helped many couples and look forward to supporting you too.

Most people are aware that the skin is our body's largest organ and is our first line of defense against anything harmful in our environment. You may not know however that our skin is home to a complex and dynamic community of microorganisms that is referred to as the skin microbiome. This ecosystem plays a huge role in maintaining skin health, protecting against pathogens, and in our immune responses.
